history
The foundation of our church was laid during the summer of 1976, when a youth pastor (Vern Finck) with a passion for lost and hurting people, and a group of young people came down from Valley Assembly of God, in Salt Lake City, Utah. During this time gospel films were shown as well as evangelistic outreaches to the people of the area. Over the next few years the founding Pastor Vern Finck, would travel down to St. George from Salt Lake City, every weekend to hold services and minister to the people. After several years, in 1979, “Dixie Assembly of God” was planted. In the early years they met at the mushroom farm, Dixie College and the Hilton Hotel. In February of 1981, the construction of a new facility was started with the labor and financial resources coming from the congregations of Dixie Assembly and Valley Assembly of God. The building was dedicated on Sunday, November 22, 1981.
Over the years several faithful servants of God have ministered to the people of Dixie Assembly of God and the surrounding area. We thank God for their years of dedication, leadership, sacrifice, diligent and faithful proclamation of the gospel. We are where we are today because of the rich foundation that was laid by those who have gone before us.
We thank God for the members of the congregation that were so willing to literally invest their lives into building and establishing this body of believers in St. George.
In the spring of 2000, the congregation of then “Dixie Assembly of God” took steps of faith to pave the way for a new church to be built. We sold our building, purchased 3 acres of I-15 frontage property, and moved into Sunset Elementary for worship services. Sensing that God was shaping and defining our vision, calling us to new areas of ministry, a name change ensued. “New Life Christian Center” was birthed and our first service was held on Sunday June 4, 2000 at Sunset Elementary. After three years at Sunset Elementary the Lord opened up a facility at 189 W. Tabernacle. Our first service was held at this location on September 7, 2003.
New Life Christian Center held services at 1165 W. Silicon Circle, Bldg. A, St. George, UT 84770 from 2006-2016 followed by the Red Lion Hotel until 2020. After merging with New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in 2019, renovations for a new building began in 2020 during the Covid-19 shutdown while services temporarily streamed online. Renovations completed in the Fall of 2020 and the doors reopened for live services in September 2020. Worship services are currently held at 1062 E. Tabernacle St., St. George, UT.
Here at New Life Christian Center you will find people who have a growing passion for Jesus and a compassion for people. With God’s help we will demonstrate the love of Jesus to our city and let His light shine.
