Be Alert and Sober Minded

Nov 30, 2025    Pastor Ia Jimenez

1 Peter 5:8, reminds us that the enemy is always looking for moments of vulnerability in our lives. Just as a bank notifies us of “suspicious activity,” the Holy Spirit alerts us when a situation isn’t spiritually right.

We are encouraged to:

• Be alert — Stay watchful, intentional, and aware of the enemy’s tactics.

• Be sober-minded — Keep your thoughts anchored in God’s truth rather than fear or emotions.

• Pray continually — Philippians 4:6–7 tells us that through prayer and gratitude, God's peace stands guard over our hearts and minds.

• Examine ourselves — Following 2 Corinthians 13:5, Pastor Ia reminded us to regularly check in with the Lord about our spiritual health, our motives, and our relationship with God. God is faithful and will reveal His loving will for us and show us where we need to be.

Spiritual alertness isn’t about paranoia—it’s about peaceful awareness. When we remain prayerful, grateful, and grounded in Scripture, we become sensitive to God’s voice and resilient against the enemy’s lies.

In summary, stay spiritually awake and connected to God. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice," so we do not have to worry or be afraid of not hearing from God - He is always willing to speak to us. Let His truth guide your thoughts, His peace guard your heart, and His Spirit alert you to anything that tries to pull you away from Him.
